Choosing a bed is not always completely straight forward - in fact, we’d argue that it rarely is, and nor should it be!

Your bed is the single most important large piece of furniture you will invest in - it will affect your sleep and therefore your health and happiness. That’s how important good sleep is, and a good sleeping environment starts with the bed you select.

Bed for your main bedroom

This is where your money should go - you need to make sure you select the best mattress for your needs. Choose from memory foam or sprung mattress, both of which have different benefits.

If you regularly wake up aching then you could definitely benefit from a memory foam mattress that offers a spread support for your joints and allows you to sleep with your spine in a more natural position.

If aching is not a problem for you and you like to have firm support, then a sprung mattress could be better for you.

When the mattress is chosen, consider the style of bed you want. If you need a lot of storage then think about an ottoman storage lift up bedframe. These can also be very stylish but are usually more expensive.

If you need to keep it cheap but functional then a divan option could be better for you - although these are not as stylish as many of the metal, wooden and leather framed options.

Whatever your style choices, don’t take the decision likely and do plenty of research. If you need to chat to someone about your best options, then talk to our expert Bedstar UK staff, who will be happy to help out.

Bed for the spare room

Spare beds will not need to be as long lasting as your main bed, simply because there won’t be someone sleeping in it every night. Depending on how many guests you regularly have staying over, you could theoretically get away with a very basic bed choice and a mattress that isn’t too expensive. It’s not to say you don’t care about the quality of your guests’ sleep of course, but a few nights won’t hurt anyone!

Depending on the size of your spare room, you need to decide whether you need a single or double bed. It’s most likely not worth choosing a king size for a spare bedroom, and it’s wise to concentrate on decorating the room, rather than choosing the most stylish frame.

Bed for the kids’ room

There are a plethora of choices for your kids’ bedroom - do you need one single bed? And if that’s the case, how would you feel about choosing something rather out of the ordinary? There are loads of amazing quality themed beds in the shape of everything from a princess carriage to a fire engine, which can lend a really fun quality to your child’s room. Bunkbeds could also be a wise choice if you have a child that has friends over regularly or just likes to have two beds to choose from!
