Whether you’re single or in a relationship, you’re going to need the right mattress for that perfect night’s sleep. When choosing the right mattress to match your perfect bed, you’ve got a lot to take into consideration; firmness, the materials (i.e what it is made from) and the style - what a lot of people don’t take into account is the size of the mattress and how that might impact not only your room but more importantly, your life.
Sure, it might seem simple but a lot of people get this wrong. They either underestimate whether the amount of space they will need, or equally as frustrating, purchase a mattress that is far too big. When deciding on the size of your mattress there are a few things you’ll need to think about. With this guide you’ll find some hints and tips which will help you find your perfect mattress.
Firstly, how many people will the mattress be sleeping?
May as well start with the obvious question. The answer will most probably be either one or two. If your new mattress will be sleeping one person, then you might be able to get away with purchasing a single bed. Of course this depends on the age of the person and may vary between families. If you are looking for a bed as a couple, then you’re probably looking at a double bed and upwards, although it is recommended that you go for anything above a king-size. This gives you the opportunity to either snuggle up or to spread out on your own. Regardless of how loved up you are, you’re going to want some time apart.
How old are the sleepers?
When deciding on the perfect mattress you should take into account the age of the sleeper. If they’re young, you might be better off going for a single mattress or in the case of toddlers, a small single. On the other hand, it might be a good investment to get them into a double bed straight away, as there won’t be the need to upgrade their bed when they’re older - that’s if you buy them a quality bed frame, the cheaper they are, the quicker they will fall apart.
How much space do you have?
If you have a small bedroom, then maybe a double mattress works better from a technical standpoint. If you’re after a good night’s sleep - which is arguably more important - then sacrifice some space and work in a king size bed. Don’t push it to fit in a super king size bed though, because you’ll need some space to move about in the morning. There’s nothing worse than waking up your partner because all you’ve got left is a bed and a door.
