Fabric beds have made somewhat of a resurgence in recent years mainly due to the growing amount of choice in material and available colour swatches. Popular fabrics, such as linen and chenille, are being used to produce some truly beautiful upholstered bed frames in on-trend colours including duck egg blue, stone and oatmeal. This design led boom is helping the upholstered frame surge ahead of its rival metal and wooden counterparts, and take pride of place in many bedrooms.
A new range of velvet and crushed velvet fabrics are now available in some exciting finishes, including champagne and steel. This type of fabric has some subtle reflective qualities allowing the colour shade to alter depending on the amount and the direction of the light in the room.
A standard double mattress measuring 135cm x 190cm will fit this size of frame, with a very small recess either side to allow the mattress to slot perfectly into position. A double upholstered bed can vary in its external size dependent on the depth of the head and footboard, and particularly if either end as a curved design.
