Wooden Beds FAQ's
What type of wood is used in your beds?
Oak Bed Frames
Diligently manufactured from solid oak and introduced in natural finishes, our oak beds are crafted from sustainable hardwoods and feature quality craftsmanship and elegant designs, providing a piece guaranteed to be enjoyed for many years.
For a more cost-effective compromise, some of our oak beds only feature an oak veneer that creates the expensive appearance of oak for a lower cost. An oak bed can make a bold statement in any traditional or contemporary bedroom setting, perfect for adding a rustic touch regardless of your chosen style.
Pine Bed Frames
Beautifully crafted from high-quality solid pine, all our pine beds guarantee a robust construction that sits equally well alongside contemporary and traditional interiors. These beds, available in a painted finish or a natural antique pine hard-wearing finish, will ensure optimum firm support and a timeless design.
Rubberwood - Eco-Friendly Choice.
Rubberwood is a light-coloured medium-density tropical hardwood obtained from the Para Rubber Tree. Rubberwood is also a sustainable timber, so a rubberwood bed is an environmentally friendly choice as it uses plantation trees that have already served a useful function. Rubberwood is a very stable, durable material, with shrinkage and cracking kept to a minimum.
What makes a wooden bed durable?
A wooden bed's durability depends on several key factors:
1. Type of Wood
- Hardwood (Most Durable) – Oak, walnut, maple, teak, and mahogany are strong and long-lasting.
- Softwood (Less Durable but Sturdy) – Pine and cedar are budget-friendly but may dent or scratch more easily.
- Engineered Wood – Plywood and MDF can be durable if high-quality but are generally less sturdy than solid wood.
2. Construction Quality
- Solid Joints – Mortise-and-tenon or dovetail joints are stronger than nails or glue.
- Thick Wooden Slats – Wide, evenly spaced slats provide better mattress support and prevent sagging.
- Reinforced Frames – A center support beam and sturdy legs enhance stability.
3. Finish & Protection
- Sealed or Varnished Wood – Protects against moisture, scratches, and wear.
- Anti-woodworm or Waterproof Treatments – Helps prevent damage over time.
4. Proper Maintenance
- Regular Cleaning – Dusting and wiping with a damp cloth prevent dirt buildup.
- Avoid Excess Moisture – Keeps wood from warping or cracking.
- Use Felt Pads – Prevents scratches when moving the bed.
