Choosing a child's bed is one of the most important purchases you will make for their bedroom. It has to be functional (do you need extra storage, for example? Or do you think you will need a bunk bed for your child's sleepovers? ), but it also has to be fun.
There's nothing more important than your child getting a good night's sleep. Children who sleep badly are known to be more stressed, anxious, and likely to perform badly in school, not to mention just plain unhappy. And unhappy kids make for unhappy parents.
Choosing the right kind of bed to fit in with your child's room and their taste can go a long way to helping them feel comfortable in going to bed - and even look forward to it.
The first thing to consider is the real practicalities. How old is your little one, and how long do you want them to be able to use the bed? If you are selecting their first proper bed, then you could consider a small single bed. These have smaller mattresses than regular single beds and are perfect if your child has a small room and space is at a premium. This small single-bed size will last until the early teens, so longevity versus cost is something to consider.
If you have the room, buying a regular-size single bed will likely be more cost-effective. This will last a lot longer. For example, a fairly neutral design with solid workmanship could last through a child's teenage years.
Beds come in many designs, shapes, and materials. Consider the likelihood of your child subjecting their bed to a lot of hard wear and tear should you have an active child. You may find them bouncing up and down or dismantling the bed to make a fort. You can pretty much guarantee that it will take more stress than any other bed in your house, so choosing one that is likely to last is important.
Simple, straightforward single beds are a good option cost-wise, and they come in many designs and materials, from wooden frames to metal and aluminium, depending on the style.
Storage space is a common problem when decorating a child's room. Keep it as tidy as possible, no matter how many toys, gadgets, books, or clothes you need to fit in. It could be a good idea to consider a bed with room for storage underneath.
A bunk bed can be a good decision if your children share a room or you are likely to have lots of small guests. They range from the traditional wooden bunk bed to a more contemporary triple bunk bed, which has a double bed on the bottom bunk, which can be an excellent option to widen the usage of the bed.
