What mattress firmness is right for me?

Firmness depends on your sleep position, body weight and personal preference. Side sleepers generally suit a softer feel as it cushions pressure points at the hip and shoulder. How long should a mattress last?

Open coil mattresses use a single connected wire system — less expensive but more prone to motion transfer. Do I need a specific mattress for my bed frame?

The most important thing is getting the right size. Most mattresses work with most frames. The exception is slatted frames — if the slats are more than 7cm apart you may need a sturdier mattress or a slatted base insert. Divan beds with a platform top provide the firmest, most even support and suit any mattress type. Adjustable beds require a specially designed flexible mattress.

What does spring count actually mean?

Spring count refers to the number of individual pocket springs in a king size mattress. Higher count generally means more targeted support — but it's not the only factor in quality. A 1,000 spring mattress from a reputable brand will often outperform a cheaper 3,000 spring mattress. The gauge of the springs, the fillings above them, and overall build quality matter just as much as the count.

How do I know if my mattress is too soft or too firm?
