What is a pocket spring mattress?

What's the difference between pocket springs and open coil springs?
Open coil (or continuous coil) springs are all connected to each other via a single wire running through the mattress. Pocket springs are completely separate from each other, so they react only to the weight directly above them. Are pocket spring mattresses good for couples?

Yes — a memory foam or wool topper placed on top of a pocket spring mattress is a very popular combination. A topper is a cost-effective way to add softness or pressure relief to a mattress that's slightly too firm, and the pocket springs underneath still provide the support and motion isolation they're known for. Bear in mind that a topper will add to the overall depth of the sleeping surface, so you may need deep-pocket fitted sheets. If your mattress already has a thick comfort layer, adding a topper may make the overall feel too soft.
