Mattress

We spend a third of our lives sleeping, which is a lot of time on a mattress. So, you clearly won't be able to keep your beloved mattress forever as it will inevitably reduce performance towards the end of its life. The only thing you can do to extend this is to take good care of it.

Taking care of the mattress depends upon the material used in the construction process. The general guidance is that your mattress will last between 7 and 10 years. However, some higher-quality foam mattresses last up to 15 years.

You can extend the life of your mattress if you look after it using the following steps.

Use a protector

One of the essential factors that will help prolong the lifespan is to limit the number of accidents and spills and also fit a mattress protector.

It's easy to think that it won't happen to you, but it happens to everyone, even the tidiest people, so buying a protector is a sound investment.

Many types of protectors come in various materials and price ranges. Ensure you know your mattress's exact size and height to ensure that you purchase a protector that fits correctly.

There are two types of protectors:

Fitted: Fitted protectors are similar to fitted sheets in how you apply them, which is the most common type because of their practicality and affordability.

They typically come in waterproof versions, suitable for protecting against all fluids and bodily oils, ensuring complete protection.

Encasement: Encase and protect your entire mattress.
Cover all six sides and tend to be zipped up the side. Encasement mattresses are outstanding for people attempting to avoid allergens or prevent bedbugs.

Make Sure the Mattress is Properly Supported

A solid bed base will give you the best opportunity to offer the correct levels of support, making it a crucial factor in how long it will last. Also

Ultimately, if you are dissatisfied with the quality of your mattress, many people would consider purchasing a new one. However, this may not be the main issue and could cause similar effects even on the new mattress.

If you ensure it is supported correctly, it should wear at the same rate.

The lifespan of a mattress varies depending on its type and quality.

Memory Foam Mattresses: 8-12 years
Latex Mattresses: 10-15 years

Avoid eating in bed.

Although this may seem small, you may ask yourself, why would eating in bed affect the lifespan?

A simple snack isn't relatively as harmless as you once believed. Crumbs from your food will attract bugs, so change your sheets regularly or avoid eating in bed.

Rotating and flipping regularly

As a general rule, mattresses need rotating once every three months, which is critical to ensuring the area you usually sleep on doesn't begin to become more worn.

However, modern mattresses can withstand the weight of them a bit more nowadays, which has become a less critical concern in past years.

It is highly recommended to check the details with your manufacturer to know exactly how often they believe you should rotate your mattress or if it is rotational.

Keeping your mattress clean

Maintaining many things involves cleaning them. Mattresses are no different. Vacuuming twice a year is an excellent way to prevent a build-up of dust mites, sweat, and allergens.

Also, if any stains occur, they must be dealt with immediately, as leaving them will only cause problems, so it is best to deal with them as and when they happen.
