Autumn Bedroom Colours
Whether you’re decorating your bedroom this autumn or love the season, there are plenty of autumn-perfect colours to try.
Autumn is the best season for warm hues, cosy textures, and a sense of comfort as the weather turns cooler – think earthy beiges, warm oranges, and dark hazels – although you also want some brighter colours to make it pop.
Here are some of the best autumn bedroom colours in 2024:
Warm, earthy tones
Warm and earthy tones mimic the colours of falling leaves.
Terracotta is a popular option. Its rich, reddish-brown hue is reminiscent of falling leaves and clay pottery. Terracotta will add depth and warmth to your bedroom walls and pair beautifully with creamy whites and soft beiges.
Suppose you’re after a deeper, more muted version of traditional orange. In that case, rust orange brings an autumnal character to your bedroom, pairing perfectly with darker wood tones and soft, neutral accents like creams.
Ochre-yellow is the best warm colour for brightening your bedroom without being overpowering. It also works as an accent against dark grey backdrops – ideal for a modern yet characterful bedroom.
Muted greens
We’re talking sages, olives, and forests – not hulk green!
Forest green is our favourite autumnal green because it mimics the feel of being in a forest. Throw in some orange, and you have autumn bliss.
But if forest green is too dark, sage green works best. It’s a soft, greyish green that’s soothing and versatile, making it perfect for bedroom walls.
Another good option for a woodier, more natural feel is olive green – a deep, earthy green that works brilliantly in country bedrooms.
Rich jewels
Burgundy, sapphire blue, and amethyst purple are perfect autumnal colours.
Sapphire blue is a fantastic choice to bring a sense of calm and elegance to your bedroom without overpowering other elements.
Some people find sapphire a bit bland, though, in which case amethyst purple is your best option. This regal purple hue will add a touch of mystery and luxury to your autumn bedroom and pair beautifully with plants.
Burgundy is another top choice if you want a dark and moody look for your autumn bedroom. Add some neutrals, and you’ll have a perfectly balanced bedroom to unwind.
Cosy and warm(ish) neutrals
Banish stark white for neutrals with character.
Taupe is a beautiful choice for modern and traditional bedrooms. It’s technically a soft, warm grey with a slight caramel tint.
Soft cream – or off-white – is the safest choice for your bedroom, although it can lack some character and can make your space feel a bit old-fashioned.
Warm caramel is an upgrade over soft cream for autumn colours. It adds warmth and a brown tint, perfect for complementing metallic fixtures.
Accent colours
Greens, browns, creams, and caramels are wonderful autumn colours for your bedroom, but what about lightening things up?
That’s where accent colours like red and orange come in—they are perfect for creating focal points and giving your bedroom the wow factor.
Burnt orange is perfect against a sapphire blue backdrop, while letterbox red gives your bedroom character against a beige or grey backdrop.
How to use these autumnal colours
Accent colours easily match bedroom décor and fixtures such as lamps, photo frames, cushions, blankets, and clocks.
Warm neutrals are easy to achieve by painting most of your walls in that colour. You can then add secondary colours to feature walls.
One of our favourite tricks for making autumnal colours work is painting a ‘half and half’ bedroom. For instance, two walls might be caramel, while the others could be sage green or sapphire blue. Just mix and match to suit your tastes.
