Your bedroom is the most personal room in your home. The main focus in bedrooms is getting a good night’s sleep, so comfort always takes precedence, but that doesn’t mean you have to give up style and ambience.

This year, we expect designing for comfort to be the big trend, with a renewed focus on sustainable materials, bright colours, and greenery, as people seek to connect with nature and feel happier at home.

Here are the significant bedroom design trends for 2023:

Designing for comfort 

Layers of soft, luxurious textiles, plush throws, and knitted fabrics are set to take over the glamorous vibes of 2021. Silk and satin are more explicit materials with a tactile quality, bringing a palpable sense of comfort to bedrooms.

To get the look, layer up your bed with cotton and linen bedding, plush pillows, and a soft throw that covers the foot of your bed. Choose fabrics that give you a sense of warmth through touch and visuals.

Natural mattress

One of the growing trends is natural mattresses made from raw materials like cotton, silk, cashmere, mohair, bamboo, and wool. These mattresses have far fewer synthetic materials and a lower carbon footprint.

Sustainable materials 

As the world tackles climate change, sustainability is becoming an increasingly important aspect of interior design. Bedrooms are personal, so they are the perfect space to showcase your desire to live sustainably.

Something as simple as a wooden bed will give your bedroom a sustainable vibe, especially with rattan décor and a straw rug.

Greenery for mental health 

Studies show that nature benefits mental health; you don’t need to be in thick woodland to realise the benefits. A houseplant in your bedroom will break up your design and deliver an authentic natural touch.  

Houseplants, shrubs, and bonsai trees will be popular in bedrooms in 2023 as people seek to escape the concrete jungle.

Bright pops of colour

While 2021 was the year of moody and dusky tones, 2023 will be the year of bright colours that deliver a jolt of joy to bedrooms.

Greens, blues, yellows, and pinks will enjoy liberal use, bringing a sense of playfulness to spaces. So you don’t overdo it, make sure only 10% of your bedroom is bright (the 60-30-10 rule is a good rule to follow).

Ottoman beds

Ottoman beds are less popular than divans because they are more expensive, but with people spending more time at home, the extra storage space is worth its weight in gold. We expect Ottomans to see a resurgence in 2023 because of this.

Black is back

Monotone colour schemes have always been popular in bedrooms, but black is solemnly used because it sucks the light out of bedrooms and gives off a gothic vibe. This is set to change in 2023 with a fresh twist.

Black has interior brass elements like brassy beds, light fittings, and décor, elevating black feature walls to new heights. To get the look, paint the wall behind your bed black and contrast it with a brass metal bed and brass wall lights.

Opulent ceiling lights 

As people spend more time at home, they tend to look at areas of the bedroom that see little love. One of these is the ceiling, so we expect opulent light fittings to sell well in 2023 as people seek a striking finishing touch to their bedrooms.
