Old Bed & Mattress
Millbrook is England's leading handmade mattress-in-a-box brand, offering a unique collection of natural-filling mattresses. The Lavish range is the company's premium value range, offering luxurious comfort at a great price.
The Lavish 1000, 4000, and 6000 are natural-filling mattresses with zoned pocket springs and an edge-to-edge support system to use the whole mattress.
Each mattress is handmade in England from British materials, with 100% chemical-free processes to ensure no synthetic smell out of the box. However, each mattress offers a different comfort level.
This article explores the critical differences between the Millbrook Lavish 1000, 4000, and 6000 to help you decide which is best.
Critical differences
The names 1000, 4000, and 6000 denote each mattress's quantity of pocket springs, so the 6000 has six times more springs than the Lavish 1000.
Additionally, due to the extra springs, the 4000 is thicker than the Lavish 1000, and the 6000 is even thicker still, topping out at a substantial 35cm.
You can expect different levels of motion isolation and support from each mattress, with a higher quantity of springs denoting more refinement.
Millbrook Lavish 1000
The Millbrook Lavish 1000 kicks off the range at £699 for a super king, £599 for a king size, £499 for a double, and £399 for a king.
This medium-feel mattress has 1,000 zoned pocket springs, with a metal cage and foam encasement at the edges for edge support. A medium feel works best for side sleepers, occasional back sleepers, and those weighing 140 lbs to 190 lbs.
One thousand pocket springs are the minimum we recommend for refined comfort, defined as when a mattress doesn't struggle to support you.
The comfort layer is British wool, which provides bounce, spring, and resilience, adding very little bulk while delivering excellent comfort. The chemical-free wool rejects moisture and regulates your temperature better than foam.
The Lavish 1000 comes in a box and is ready to go after two hours. The finish is exceptional, with a Damask outer cover and flawless detailing.
You can't go wrong with this affordable, natural mattress.
Millbrook Lavish 4000
The Millbrook Lavish 4000 is more expensive, starting at £899 for a super king, £799 for a king, £749 for a double, and £459 for a single.
For your extra money, you get an additional 3,000 pocket springs, bringing the total count to 4,000 for a more refined sleep experience.
The additional springs over the Lavish 1000 increase motion isolation, ensuring little disturbance for your partner (and vice versa). It also makes the mattress thicker at 29cm vs 25cm, delivering deeper support.
The Lavish 4000 is also a medium-feel mattress best for side sleepers, occasional back sleepers, and anyone weighing 140 lbs to 190 lbs. The additional springs ensure you always have maximum support on your side.
You also get a thicker British wool comfort layer, deeper padding to squish into, and the same chemical-free, handmade construction.
Millbrook Lavish 6000
The Millbrook Lavish 6000 tops the range, priced at £1,099 for a super king, £999 for a king, £899 for a double, and £599 for a single.
You can expect royalty-grade comfort from the Lavish 6000, which has 1,000 standard pocket springs and 5,000 micro pocket springs for comfort in every position. It responds to your movement instantly with sublime support.
At 35cm thick, the Lavish 6000 is on the bulkier side and won't suit some bed frames, but those with a high headboard can happily use it.
Is it worth plumping up to this model for the extra springs? The difference between this mattress and the Lavish 1000 is enormous, but the 4000, not so much. It provides better motion isolation and comfort but is much thicker.
If you want ultimate luxury in a natural mattress, the Lavish 6000 is unequaled, but you will find better value from the 4000 and 1000.
