Storage Beds Explained What Different Types are Available?

Divan Bed Vs. Ottoman Bed, Which is better?

Storage Beds

Storage beds have in-built storage, and there are three main types: beds with drawers, beds with slide stores, and ottoman beds.

In-built storage is handy because it makes accessing and using storage easier; with a standard bed frame, you need to find the correct box to fit under the bed and pull it out whenever required. How annoying!

If sliding and pulling boxes out from underneath your bed isn’t your idea of fun, then a storage bed will serve you perfectly.

Here’s everything you need to know about storage beds:

Beds with drawers

Beds with drawers are available as a divan base or as a regular bed frame, and you can get them with two to four drawers in most cases.

Divan bases are the most common, with drawers built into the sides (from double size) or foot end (small double, single sizes). The drawers blend into the divan base, finished in the same upholstery as the rest of the base.

With regular frames, the drawers are usually built into the foot end but can also be built into the sides providing the sides are high enough.

Divans save space because the base is the same size as the mattress, so no protruding legs take up space. Regular frames take up a little more floor space and let you slide boxes underneath if the structure is tall.

Slide store Beds

Slidestores have a sliding door instead of drawers, and like drawers, they are available with a divan base or a regular bed frame.

A sliding door is better in small spaces because you don’t have to worry about a drawer hitting anything in front of it. The downside is that it can make accessing whatever’s inside a little more tricky.

Another benefit to sliding stores is the storage space is often more significant than you get with drawers, with storage space spanning the length of the bed.

A slide-store bed is an excellent option if a small bedroom needs storage for shoes, games, and bedding.

Ottoman Beds

Ottoman beds have a liftable mattress base with a hydraulic strut, using abundant space between the mattress and the floor.

The storage space offered by Ottomans is unequalled, and with some bases, you can specify a side-opening or end-opening platform. The base is finished in the same fabrics as a divan, so there are no external differences.

There are no drawbacks to ottomans, other than most ottomans have a platform base like divans (if you’re not keen on upholstered beds, get a wooden bed with drawers instead).

Is it worth getting a bed with storage?

Beds with storage make life easier and eliminate the need for annoying under-bed boxes, helping keep your bedroom neat.

You can pick up a bed with storage for the same price as a regular bed frame, so getting one from an economic view is worth it. Ottomans are more expensive than other bed types, but the abundant storage space is worth the premium.

Storage beds are practical and have no drawbacks except for taking more time to build (if applicable). They last just as long as regular bed frames and are available in various colours and styles to suit all tastes.

Overall

Beds with drawers are a simple solution for bedroom storage, but if you have a small bedroom where drawers are difficult to operate, a slide store will be best; both offer similar storage space and are provided in the same styles. Ottomans offer way more space and are the best option for maximising storage.
