Old Bed & Mattress
Sleepovers are so much fun that they make the memories of a lifetime. While most kids are delighted to sleep on the floor with a few duvets and blankets, having a proper bed for guests makes the experience even more enjoyable.
The classic solution is a folding bed on caster wheels like the JayBe Crown Premier, which lets you fold it in half and store it vertically. Beds like this have come a long way in the last decade with plush mattresses and excellent support.
Another excellent option for younger kids is a bunk bed like the Julian Bowen Camden, and you can even get triple sleepers like the Bedmr Snowdon.
This article runs through all the best kid's beds for legendary sleepovers.
Let's jump in!
A bunk bed is the ultimate sleepover bed because it gives everyone space and privacy without taking up extra floor space.
You can get bunk beds in metal or wood – which is best a matter of taste. The Julian Bowen Wyoming is a classical choice if you like a natural wooden finish.
You can also get bunk beds with a small double lower bunk like the Birlea Nexus – this is an excellent option for older kids and teenagers.
A folding bed is ideal as a spare bed for kids' sleepovers and guest use because you can easily fold it away and store it vertically.
Not only are folding beds convenient and space-saving, but the mattresses are surprisingly plush for fantastic sleep. The JayBe Crown Windermere is a brilliant option, with an 18cm open coil mattress in medium firmness to suit most sleepers.
Another sweet option is the Jay-Be J-Bed which has wooden slats and a 10cm mattress, so it takes up less space than the Premier model.
A trundle bed is a single bed with a slide-out bed underneath it. The extra frame is on wheels, so all you do is slide it out and make the bed in preparation for the grand night.
The Bedmr Tyler (£459) is a fancy option with a pine frame and a modern grey finish with a seamless trundle.
However, our favourite option is the Zodial Day Bed, which offers plush comfort with an upholstered velvet base for a blissful sleep.
Triple sleepers are bunk beds with an extra bunk to sleep three. You can get them with three stacked bunks like the Bedmr Snowdon or two bunks and a more oversized lower bunk for top and tailing like the Julian Bowen Domino.
Our favourite triple sleeper is the Flair Ollie Triple, which has a beautiful grey wooden frame and an angled profile to make other kids jealous.
The downside to triple sleepers is they take up more space than bunk beds, and the extra space is unlikely to be used much of the time.
Sleeping on the floor is a rite of passage for sleepovers, but you can give your guest a mattress to provide a more comfortable experience.
The best mattress for floor use is a pure foam mattress like the Giltedge Beds Cellflex (£159 single, medium-firm) because firmer foam resists compression – simply put, the foam won't compress down to the floor when it is jumped on.
Rest assured, a pure foam mattress at least 10cm thick will be incredibly comfortable on the floor and a massive upgrade versus sleeping on cushions.
The last option on our list is the cheapest but most fragile option. Blow-up beds (also known as air and camping beds) work fine but get pierced by children playing, so you have to throw them away and buy another.
Also, blow-up beds are made from flexible PVC, a problem plastic that isn't widely recyclable in the UK (in fact, only 3% of PVC is recycled globally). Going down the permanent, reusable bed route for kids' sleepovers is best if you are eco-conscious.
